Since 2023, Civic Learning Week has been nationally recognized to raise awareness around the importance of civic education in our classrooms and encourage civic engagement among our youth.

Civic education provides students with the essential knowledge and skills needed to understand the function of government, the importance of their voices in a democracy, and how to take meaningful action within their communities. Those who receive quality civic education are more likely to engage in actions such as voting and community service and develop stronger critical thinking and communication skills.

We are proposing a resolution that would recognize the week of March 10-14, 2025, as Civic Learning Week in Pennsylvania. Civic engagement is the foundation of our democracy, and our schools can play a key role in educating our students on their roles as engaged citizens.

This year’s Civic Learning Week theme is “Making civic learning a nationwide priority for a stronger democracy.” Please join us in supporting this goal by recognizing Civic Learning Week in our Commonwealth.
