Pilots navigating the waterways of the Commonwealth are essential to the safe navigation of ships in and out of harbor. Fees paid for these services are indispensable in maintaining safe and dependable waterways in the Commonwealth.
Our legislation will require a rate adjustment in the fees paid to river pilots who navigate trade vessels along the Delaware River and its navigable tributaries. Pilotage rates are based on the length and breadth of a vessel and the pilot’s hours spent on board.
Increasing the rate of pilotage fees will allow the continued support of essential infrastructure on the Delaware River and Delaware Bay. Maintaining this infrastructure is essential for the continued success of Pennsylvania’s waterway commerce system and its contribution to the economy of the state.
Services provided by Pennsylvania’s river pilots are essential to the Commonwealth. We hope you will join us in supporting them by co-sponsoring this legislation.
