Last session, the Senate Transportation Committee held public hearings to gather testimony on “Optimizing Pennsylvania’s Multimodal Transportation System,” which included critical discussions on public transit funding. The hearings underscored the undeniable need for a reliable, consistent funding stream for our public transportation network—comprising 53 transit systems statewide—that is essential to Pennsylvania’s prosperity and long-term success.
Pennsylvania’s economy thrives when people can move safely and efficiently. Recognizing this, Governor Shapiro proposed a game-changing investment in our transportation infrastructure by allocating $292.5 million to mass transit next year in his 2025-26 budget.  This funding will expand and enhance public transportation, making it more accessible, reliable, and efficient for all Pennsylvanians. Additionally, this legislation will lay the foundation for further long-term investments in public transit.
This is a smart, bipartisan investment that creates jobs, strengthens communities, and ensures that Pennsylvanians—whether commuting by bus, train, or other public transit means—can reach their destinations. Strengthening our transit systems directly supports local economies, fosters economic development, and enhances quality of life across the Commonwealth.
To support this critical initiative, I will soon introduce legislation to increase transit funding in the Commonwealth.  Please join me in ensuring a stronger future for mass transit for all Pennsylvanians.
