In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation to establish an annual sales tax holiday on the purchase of back-to-school supplies.

High inflation continues to plague families across Pennsylvania, complicating the already difficult balance of providing a healthy upbringing for the next generation and keeping up with everyday expenses such as gas and groceries. While everyone is hurting from the effects of inflation, the impact on families with children and college students is amplified when it’s time to purchase essential school supplies. Like most items, prices of school supplies have risen sharply with inflation. I believe we can do something to help these Pennsylvanians.

My legislation would create an annual sales tax holiday that would take place from the first Saturday in August through the third Saturday in August. During this holiday, school supplies, art supplies and instructional materials with a sales price of not more than $50 would be exempt from state sales tax. Personal computers and tablets with a sale price of not more than $1,500 would also be exempt.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to keep money in the pockets of Pennsylvania families and students.
