The Carbon Monoxide Alarm Standards in Lodging Establishments Act establishes requirements for the installation and maintenance of carbon monoxide alarms in lodging establishments that utilize fossil-fuel-burning heaters, fireplaces, or appliances, or have attached garages. Under this act, such establishments must have operational, centrally located, and approved carbon monoxide alarms installed within 18 months of the effective date, specifically in the vicinity of the heating sources and in every unit on the same story. The act defines key terms such as "lodging establishment," "unit," and "installed," and clarifies that the owner is responsible for the maintenance, repair, or replacement of these alarms.

Additionally, the act imposes penalties for non-compliance, categorizing willful failure to install or maintain the required alarms as a summary offense, punishable by a fine of up to $50. The act does not alter the authority of the Department of Labor and Industry under the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act. This legislation aims to enhance safety in lodging establishments by ensuring that carbon monoxide alarms are properly installed and maintained to protect guests from potential hazards.
