A recent Congressional report notes that illegal aliens make up the largest percentage of human trafficking victims in the United States.  According to the ACLU, female migrants are commonly trafficked under the conditions of modern-day slavery, where they are forced into sexual servitude, labor servitude, debt bondage, and peonage.  Studies commissioned by both Amnesty International and the United Nations suggest that between 60-80% of migrant females are raped by smugglers during the migration process.
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that expands punishment for the offense of trafficking undocumented immigrants.

While drug cartels have been linked to human trafficking at our borders for decades, these violent groups have played an increasingly larger role in human smuggling activities in recent years in an effort to maximize profits and this practice must be ended.

Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation to better protect our Commonwealth.
