I will soon be introducing legislation to prohibit drop boxes located anywhere other than a permanent office of the board of elections or county courthouse; and regulate the use of a drop box at those locations with security measures.  Since the enactment of no-excuse mail-in voting in 2019, the use of drop boxes for ballot return has caused a variety of issues for Pennsylvania- from the varying availability and use by different counties, to the difficulties in securing drop boxes and the ease with which ballots can be returned in violation of the law. In other states, drop boxes have even been targets of vandalism. By establishing a uniform use on drop boxes, we can ensure that voters in every county have safe and equal access to casting their ballots. Please join me in sponsoring this important reform.
