In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution that would recognize March 18, 2025 as “Natural Gas Utility Worker’s Day” in Pennsylvania, celebrating natural gas workers across our Pennsylvania communities.

The hard work and accomplishments of natural gas utility workers deserve to be honored and celebrated; they bravely work in all weather conditions and face numerous hazards in order to construct, operate, and maintain a vast network of natural gas infrastructure. This work provides communities across the state with warm homes and businesses, and cleaner electricity.

The nationally-recognized Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day is March 18 because that is the anniversary date of the New London, Texas school explosion in 1937, which led to the widespread odorization of natural gas and an increased emphasis on safety. Safety is a vital aspect to natural gas distribution and the employees of distribution companies endeavor to make natural gas delivery as safe as possible. This includes raising awareness for work zone safety, which is critical to  the natural gas work force.

Please join me in honoring the hard work these employees of natural gas utilities do every day.
