In the near future, I will introduce a resolution recognizing March 28, 2025, as “Drugs Kill Dreams Day” in Pennsylvania.

Drugs Kill Dreams is a collaborative effort originated and spearheaded by Magisterial District Judge J. Gary DeComo of Armstrong County and intended to help stop drug and alcohol addiction and abuse before it begins. Judge DeComo adopted “Drugs Kill Dreams” as the slogan for his prevention campaign after a local student, Tara Powers, used the slogan on her posterboard in an anti-drug poster contest. Since then, Drugs Kill Dreams has become the most recognizable anti-drug slogan in western Pennsylvania.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Judge DeComo’s Drugs Kill Dreams campaign. It is one of several programs throughout the Commonwealth that partner with schools, churches, and other community organizations to share educational materials and prevention messages to young people. These programs have helped to encourage adolescents to live healthy, respectful, safe, and responsible lifestyles.

Please join me to cosponsor this resolution which acknowledges the success of the Drugs Kill Dreams program and highlights a significant message of prevention.
