Last year, the Bucks County community mourned the loss of a dedicated public servant, Judge R. Barry McAndrews. After graduating from Villanova University School of Law in 1957, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1962 where he received the rank of Captain. After his military service, he served in multiple roles throughout his successful legal career including Chief Counsel at Certain-teed Corporation, Assistant Public Defender, and a Partner in private practice.
In May 1991, Judge R. Barry McAndrews was appointed as a judge for the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas by Governor Bob Casey. He was subsequently elected for a 10-year term as the eleventh judge on the bench. While serving on the bench, he was selected as President Judge in 1999, a role he held until his retirement in 2003. As President Judge, he was a leading advocate for the building of the new Bucks County Justice Center which opened in January 2015. After many years of service to this Commonwealth and to our country, Judge R. Barry McAndrews passed away on March 23, 2024, at the age of 91.
In recognition of his lifetime of public service, we plan to introduce legislation designating a portion of Ferry Road, also known as State Route 1006, in Doylestown Township, Bucks County, as the Judge R. Barry McAndrews Memorial Highway.
Please join us in co-sponsoring this important effort to honor a pillar of the Bucks County community and to ensure that Judge McAndrew’s lifelong commitment to public service is remembered for years to come.
