In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to make it easier for seniors to get their auto insurance discount.

As insurance rates are continually increasing each year, we should provide our seniors with easier opportunities to receive their auto insurance discount. Currently, insurance companies provide a premium discount for insurance policies where every insured individual is 55 or older, contingent on the completion of a vehicle driver improvement course. The premium discount policy applies to all coverage beginning in the three-year period following the completion of the vehicle driver improvement course. My legislation simply increases the three-year period to a five-year period.

Furthermore, my legislation provides that for continued eligibility, each participant will take an approved vehicle driver improvement course every five years, rather than the current three-year requirement. The senior auto insurance discount is critical in aiding our seniors, who have given so much to our communities. Allowing a simple change from three to five years for the senior auto insurance discount will go a long way in providing seniors with greater ease in obtaining their auto insurance discount.

I hope you will consider joining me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to provide our seniors with more opportunity to receive their auto insurance
