Current law requires Pennsylvania medical cannabis dispensaries, growers, and processors to maintain video surveillance of their premises. However, the interpretation of this law requires growers, processors, and dispensaries to hire individuals to conduct monitored surveillance at each location instead of utilizing automated systems. This creates unnecessary labor and places a financial strain on businesses.

To enhance the Commonwealth’s medical marijuana program, I will soon be introducing legislation to amend Act 16 of 2016 (Medical Marijuana Act). My amendment will clarify that video surveillance equipment must operate continuously. By refining this language, we will provide the medical cannabis industry with greater financial flexibility and savings. This change will enable operators to allocate resources more effectively to serve their patients.

I invite you to co-sponsor this legislation to provide much-needed financial support to our state’s medical marijuana industry.
