Health care decisions are some of the most important choices that a person can make. These decisions often reflect a person’s closely held values and documents like a living will or a health care power of attorney can be important guides to ensuring that a person receives the care that they desire even when that person is incapacitated.

To make sure that Pennsylvania’s law gives each person the tools they need to plan their health care, I am introducing legislation to implement the Uniform Law Commission model law for health care decisions. This legislation will modernize the process for advance health care directives and make it easier for people to plan their future health care decisions. Delaware passed this model legislation last year, and five other states are now considering versions of the legislation.

All Pennsylvanians deserve to have the best options available to plan their health care, so please join me in updating Pennsylvania’s health care decisions law.
