In the near future, I will be reintroducing House Bill 1280 to address the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) enlisted complement.

Last session, this bill passed the House Judiciary Committee and the full House of Representatives unanimously.

Over the past two decades, PSP realized a significant increase in coverage area, has assumed responsibilities in at least 65 additional municipalities with a 38 percent increase in total incidents.

During that same period, PSP has absorbed at least 55 additional legislatively mandated activities that have strained resources and negatively impacted patrol functions.

As such, while PSP has been given significantly more responsibilities over the last two decades, there has not been a corresponding increase to the statutory cap for the enlisted complement.

PSP continues to do more with less. If we fail to take the necessary steps needed to alleviate this imbalance, we run the risk that they will not be able to meet the future policing demands of the Commonwealth.

Please join me in supporting this legislation.
