In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to create the Gadsden flag license plate for passenger vehicles and motorcycles.

The Gadsden flag depicts a timber rattlesnake on a yellow field, with the words “Don’t Tread on Me” beneath the timber rattlesnake. The Gadsden flag has a deep connection to the American Revolution, as does Pennsylvania. The flag was designed and first used by Continental Colonel Christopher Gadsden, a revolutionary naval figure. The flag was first unfurled on the mast of the USS Alfred on December 20th, 1775, and quickly thereafter became a popular symbol of the American Revolution.

Today, the Gadsden flag has come to represent the ideas of individualism, liberty, and freedom. I believe that we should afford all Pennsylvanians to be able to show their individualism by creating this license plate. Various states including Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia all have specialty Gadsden flag license plates. It is important to venerate the symbols of our country, especially those of the American Revolution, and it is my hope that this license plate will allow Pennsylvanians to show their appreciation for our history.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to allow Pennsylvanians to show their individual liberty.
