A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing February 7, 2025, as "National Wear Red Day" in
2 Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, According to the American Heart Association,
4 cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women in the
5 United States, causing approximately one in three deaths each
6 year; and
7 WHEREAS, Nearly 50 million women of all ages in the United
8 States are affected by cardiovascular disease and nearly 90% of
9 women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease
10 or stroke; and
11 WHEREAS, Approximately 80% of cardiovascular diseases can be
12 prevented and many risk factors such as blood pressure, smoking,
13 cholesterol and lack of regular physical activity can be
14 directly controlled by individuals; and
15 WHEREAS, The American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women"
16 movement encourages women to learn their family health history
17 and meet with a health care provider to determine their risk for
1 cardiovascular disease and stroke; and
2 WHEREAS, Women involved with the "Go Red for Women" movement
3 live healthier lives by taking control of their heart health and
4 knowing the following five numbers that are crucial to
5 cardiovascular function:
6 (1) total cholesterol;
7 (2) HDL (good) cholesterol;
8 (3) blood pressure;
9 (4) blood sugar; and
10 (5) body mass index (BMI);
11 and
12 WHEREAS, By increasing awareness about the importance of
13 heart health and empowering women to reduce their risk for
14 cardiovascular disease and stroke, we can save thousands of
15 lives each year; therefore be it
16 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize February 7, 2025, as
17 "National Wear Red Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That the Senate highlight the importance of the
19 ongoing fight against cardiovascular disease and stroke in women
20 and urge all residents to show their support and commemorate
21 this day by wearing the color red.
