This bill amends the Insurance Company Law of 1921 to enhance coverage for mammographic examinations and breast imaging. It requires that any group or individual health insurance policy providing hospital or medical/surgical coverage must also include coverage for breast imaging. The minimum coverage mandated includes all costs associated with diagnostic breast examinations used to evaluate abnormalities detected through screening or other means, as well as supplemental breast screenings for individuals at increased risk of breast cancer due to specific medical histories or genetic predispositions. The bill also clarifies that utilization review and the application of deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance provisions are permissible.

Additionally, the bill introduces new definitions for "diagnostic breast examination" and "supplemental breast screening," specifying the types of examinations that qualify under these terms. The language changes include the insertion of "Article XXIV" and the updated terminology for the "Health Maintenance Organization Act," while deleting references to the "Fraternal Benefit Society Code." The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
