The bill amends Title 23 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes regarding alimony provisions. It introduces a new subsection (a.1) that prohibits the court from awarding alimony to a party who has been convicted of a personal injury crime against the other party, unless the court finds that an alimony order is necessary to prevent manifest injustice. Additionally, it allows the injured party to recover any alimony paid after the offense but before the conviction through a petition.

Furthermore, the bill modifies the factors considered by the court in determining alimony. It specifies that marital misconduct during the marriage is relevant, but misconduct occurring after the final separation will not be considered, except for instances of abuse, which is defined under section 6102. The changes aim to clarify the conditions under which alimony may be granted and to ensure that victims of personal injury crimes are not financially burdened by their abuser. The act is set to take effect in 60 days.
