The bill amends Section 6301(a)(1) of Title 18 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, which addresses the offense of corruption of minors. It establishes that individuals aged 18 and older who corrupt or tend to corrupt the morals of minors under 18, or who assist minors in committing crimes or violating court orders, will be charged with a misdemeanor of the first degree. However, if the offender is a peace officer, school employee, or any individual with direct contact with students, the offense escalates to a felony of the third degree.

Additionally, the bill specifies that if the corrupting conduct involves violations of Chapter 31 (relating to sexual offenses), the penalties are more severe. In such cases, if the offender is a peace officer or has direct contact with students, the crime is classified as a felony of the second degree. This amendment aims to enhance the legal consequences for adults in positions of authority who exploit their roles to corrupt minors. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
