The cost of insulin has tripled in recent years, creating significant financial challenges for many individuals trying to obtain this vital medication. As people struggle with the rising prices, there have been increasing reports of severe health complications and even deaths due to insulin rationing. No one should have to choose between paying their mortgage or rent and obtaining essential medicine.
To address this issue, we will reintroduce legislation to establish a $35 cap on a 30-day supply of insulin. Insulin was meant to be an accessible drug, and our legislation aims to achieve that goal. Twenty-five states, including New York, Maryland, Texas, and West Virginia, have already implemented caps on insulin co-payments. In 2022, Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which capped insulin prices, but only for Medicare recipients. We must ensure equitable access to this lifesaving drug for every Pennsylvania resident.
Please join us in sponsoring this legislation to help Pennsylvania lead the nation in healthcare accessibility.
