When a loved one passes away, we celebrate and honor his or her life. Each culture and family have their own way of holding this event and, many times, food and drink is catered. Often these events happen within days of the loved one’s passing and timing is often unexpected. Off premise catering permits allow liquor licenses the flexibility in catering “off-site locations.” However, the 7-day notification rule to the PLCB poses challenges. Unfortunately, many times these events occur in less time than 7 days and do not allow the opportunity for a business to provide its full service or it creates scheduling obstacles for families.

To assist our Pennsylvania families, restaurants, hotels, and breweries, I will be introducing legislation that would allow eligible licensees to utilize an off premise catering permit for an end-of-life memorial event upon 24 hours’ notice. Families are under enough strain without having to worry whether the business they decide to cater with has provided a weeks’ notice.

Please join me in sponsoring this legislation and help make holding an end-of-life memorial event easier for families and the businesses providing food and alcohol services.
