We will soon be introducing a resolution to recognize Korean American Day (January 13th) and the 50th Anniversary of the Phillip Jaisohn Memorial Foundation (January 15th).
The influence of naturalized or natural born citizens of Korean American heritage may be observed in all facets of American life, from politics to industry, entrepreneurship, to volunteerism, the arts and education. None of this would be possible without the recognition of the contributions of Phillip Jaisohn who on June 19, 1890, became the first Korean immigrant to acquire United States citizenship.
The Phillip Jaisohn Memorial Foundation will celebrate their 50th anniversary on January 15th. The Foundation has served the Korean community and now the larger AAPI community in the greater Philadelphia region through a broad range of medical and health care, senior employment training, social services, leadership development advocacy and cultural programs for the enrichment of the community. Their continued dedication and work are felt throughout the AAPI community in the southeast, especially through their work with the Asian American Coalition for Health and Human Services.
We ask that you join us in co-sponsoring this resolution and recognize the contributions of Korean Americans in this Commonwealth and honor the work of the Phillip Jaisohn Memorial Foundation.
