Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer among men, affecting one in seven men during their lifetime. This serious disease can remain dormant for up to 20 years without showing any symptoms, increasing the likelihood of individuals receiving a late-stage diagnosis. Unfortunately, due to insurance limitations, many individuals do not have access to essential screenings for prostate cancer, such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests and digital rectal examinations (DRE).
To address this issue, I plan to reintroduce legislation that requires insurance coverage for prostate cancer screenings. My bill will require insurers to provide annual access to PSA blood tests and DREs for individuals identified as being at average or high risk for prostate cancer. These screenings will follow the guidelines set by the American Cancer Society.
Prostate cancer is a devastating illness that impacts our husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons. By ensuring insurance policy coverage for these screenings, we can help our loved ones receive the proper care before it's too late. If you believe in access to quality health care, I encourage you to consider co-sponsoring this important legislation. Together, we can protect the residents of Pennsylvania from this terrible disease.
