I intend to introduce legislation to amend state law to require that members of the General Assembly hold a meeting in their legislative districts to allow for public comment on proposed constitutional amendments. Meetings would be held after the Attorney General prepares a plain English statement on the proposed amendments and before voters decide on the amendment at the ballot box. Meetings would be held in accordance with the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act — our open meetings law. 
 
Proposed amendments to our state constitution must pass both chambers of the General Assembly in two consecutive legislative sessions and are ultimately decided upon by voters in the form of a ballot question. It is vital that there be opportunity for increased public comment and public participation in this process. Pennsylvanians deserve to know that their voices are being heard, especially when changing the founding document of our state.
