To ensure that more funds generated by the Inheritance Tax stay local, I will introduce legislation to update the formula by which counties and the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue share these funds.
 
Each county’s Register of Wills is tasked with collecting funds and disbursing them under a tiered formula. Under the current formula, counties can retain:
 

• 4.25 percent for collections up to $200,000,
• 1.75 percent for collections up to $1 million,
• .5 percent for collections beyond $1 million.

This legislation will collect all funds under a unified percentage rate of 4.25 percent so that more of these dollars stay in the communities where they originated. This bill will not increase taxes.
