Since 1992, the City of Pittsburgh has banned practices used at rodeos, like electric prods and bucking straps, which inflict pain and cause injuries to animals. This local law effectively banned rodeos from the City and has been in place for decades.

But last summer, the General Assembly gutted Pittsburgh’s local law - swiftly and without public input - as part of the state budget deal.

I intend to introduce legislation to repeal the preemption of Pittsburgh’s rodeo ban, reinstating in full the local law that has been in place for more than 30 years.

Last session, Sen. Lindsey Williams introduced Senate Bill 412 and will be reintroducing this session. My bill will be the companion to her senate bill.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to protect both animals and the will of local governments and constituents.
