I will be reintroducing legislation that will allow for organized motorcycle processions, giving them the same rights on the road as funeral processions.
In order to qualify for these protections, these processions must have no fewer than 10 motorcycle drivers, not including the lead or trailing motorcycle; take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and sunset; be sponsored by a corporation or nonprofit organization; and be conducted for a memorial or charitable purpose. The legislation will also impose certain safety measures to ensure that the group is able to travel together safely.
The legislation will grant the procession the following privileges:
- To proceed through a stop sign or red light as a group
- To not have other vehicles intervene in the middle of their group, other than emergency vehicles.
Language will be similar to Senate Bill 595 of the 2023-2024 legislative session, which was cosponsored by Senators Dush, Stefano, Pennycuick, Bartolotta and Hutchinson. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation.
