Clear and open communication within our police system is essential to ensuring public safety. I will soon introduce legislation to create a Public Safety Resident Communications Pilot Program within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) to improve communication between law enforcement agencies and the public.

This pilot program will enable PCCD to offer supplemental grants to law enforcement agencies for the purchase and implementation of digital platforms or technologies that facilitate communication between police officers and community members can use to communicate. This will increase transparency and efficiency by providing a platform for automated and customizable public safety communications between police law enforcement and concerned citizens.

The bill requires PCCD to track and measure the performance and progress of the pilot program, ensuring that grants distributed equitably across the Commonwealth. Additionally, all data generated or stored within the communication platform will remain confidential and protected under the Right-to-Know Law.

This legislation will provide an opportunity to modernize how law enforcement engages with the communities they serve and protect. I invite you to join me as a co-sponsor of this initiative to improve communication channels between police officers, crime victims, and Pennsylvania residents who want to keep their communities safe.
