Every Pennsylvanian should be able to access life-saving preventive health care without having to pay an arm or a leg.

Preventive health care is important because it can save lives and adverse health consequences and costs by preventing diseases or detecting diseases earlier. That’s why the Affordable Care Act requires health insurance policies to cover preventive care without making the patient pay copays, coinsurance, or deductibles.

This provision helped millions of Pennsylvanians access no-additional-cost preventive health care like well-woman visits, colon cancer screenings, childhood vaccines, contraception, depression and anxiety screenings, and so much more.

Unfortunately, a recent federal appellate court decision threatens the continuation of this lifesaving preventive health care at the federal level. If, in the case pending before the United States Supreme Court, the Court strikes down this part of the Affordable Care Act, Pennsylvanians could lose access to affordable preventive care. Such a result will lead to bad health outcomes. For example, breast or colon cancer might be detected too late. Women may lose access to contraception. And more cases of Type 2 diabetes may develop and progress without early intervention.

Every Pennsylvanian should be able to access preventive health care without having to pay a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. That is why I will be introducing legislation that requires health insurance policies to cover preventive health care services without cost-sharing. This will protect Pennsylvanians regardless of what the Supreme Court does.

Please join me in preserving access to vital health care by supporting this legislation.
