Under current conditions, it is not a question of if rolling blackouts will occur in the Commonwealth, it is a question of when, and will we be prepared?

Beyond serious weather events, rolling blackouts will be the natural consequence of an inadequate power supply due to base load capacity being taken offline, growth in energy intensive industries, and inadequate power supplies being brought online in a timely fashion.

It is likely that we will experience rolling blackouts over the course of the next legislative session.

I will be introducing legislation establishing a process for determining how utility providers should prioritize which consumers are impacted by these events. For example, we must take steps to ensure that the most vulnerable Pennsylvanians have access to the energy sources they need to maintain life sustaining equipment.

When rolling blackouts occur, it will be in everyone’s best interest for a clear process to be put in place and allow our constituents to prepare for such an event.

I hope you will join me in sponsoring this legislation to ensure we are prepared.
