In order to help school districts better budget, I will be reintroducing legislation to change the date that they adopt their school budget to July 31 .  As school districts often do not yet know how much in state funding they will be receiving by June 30, it makes sense for them to do their budgeting after they know what state funding they will receive.

I have looked into this issue in the past, and in light of the Auditor General’s January 2023 audit of twelve Pennsylvania school districts, this is commonsense legislation to better help our school districts while also protecting our taxpayers.
This legislation was
Senate Bill 518 last session, cosponsored by Senators Phillips-Hill, Schwank and Kearney.  I encourage and thank you for your consideration of cosponsoring this important measure.
