In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to ensure that police animals in the Commonwealth receive vital emergency care.

Act 60 of 2022 allows emergency response providers to transport police animals injured in the line of duty to a veterinary clinic or other appropriate location for emergency medical care. However, 911 dispatchers may not always be aware of the nearest emergency veterinary clinic in a given area, or the clinic's availability at the time of the call.

My proposed legislation would require each 911 dispatch center to maintain up-to-date information on emergency veterinary clinics in the regions they serve. This will ensure that injured police animals are quickly transported to the nearest facility capable of providing the necessary care.

This legislation was previously introduced as
Senate Bill 1308. Previous co-sponsors include: Robinson, Gebhard, Vogel, Fontana, Bartolotta, Pennycuick, Culver, Mastriano, Martin, Miller, Costa, and Farry.
