In the near future I will be introducing a resolution urging the Federal Government to eliminate the REAL ID program, to cancel its planned requirement for US citizens to present REAL ID in order to board domestic flights, or at the least to delay implementation of any REAL ID requirements beyond the May 7, 2025 date as currently anticipated.

The REAL ID program has been a disaster since its inception 20 years ago. Its enactment unconstitutionally limits Americans’ right to free movement around our own country; REAL ID applications discriminate against married women through a higher burden on those who have ever changed their last name; and the series of failed enforcement dates have caused worry and frustration among our constituents as they fear being stopped from boarding their next flight- with these  concerns already beginning to return as we approach the currently intended enforcement date in May of this year.

Despite the panic that motivated the enactment of the REAL ID program in 2005, two decades of delays have made it clear that these security requirements are utterly pointless when it comes to protecting American citizens. Please join me in urging Congress to finally cancel this burdensome, unconstitutional and unbeneficial program.
