In 1682, the first code of laws in Pennsylvania included a provision that banned cockfighting as "rude and riotous." Putting two dogs into a ring and taking bets on the bloody outcome has been illegal in Pennsylvania since 1869. Greyhound racing has been illegal since 2004 and even simulcasting the races for betting was banned in 2010. In 2017, even possessing the implements to raise or train an animal for death in the name of gambling became illegal.

Yet, pigeon shoots are presently exempted from Pennsylvania animal cruelty law. It is far past time for our Commonwealth to fully and finally end events which harm the lives of animals by ending live pigeon shoots. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this animal anti-cruelty legislation.
