The ability of stores, restaurants, and even hotels to track and collect customers’ biometric information such as fingerprints and eye scans is no longer the work of science fiction. Amazon Go stores collect biometric information to monitor and identify customers. Panera Bread recently announced the launch of scanners that can access customer credit card and loyalty accounts. The future is now.

Customers should be notified when a business collects their biometric information. For this reason, I plan to introduce legislation that requires retail stores, restaurants, hotels, and places of entertainment that collect biometric information to notify customers using a clear and conspicuous sign at all entrances. Customers will be empowered to seek civil remedies for a violation of this requirement.

Pennsylvania customers deserve to know if their biometric information is being used by their favorite stores and restaurants. This legislation will increase transparency and help protect consumers. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
