Our local police departments, like so many public and private entities across the state, are frequently facing budget difficulties.  Many are in need of vehicles so they can continue to adquately protect our communities, but the cost of new cruisers is often an obstacle.  My proposed legislation would help our local police departments with this need.

Currently, the Department of General Services (DGS) sells used Pennsylvania State Police vehicles at public auction.  My legislation would require DGS to create a program for selling used state police pursuit vehicles directly to our local and regional police departments at a fixed price prior to any public auction.  The program would allow police departments to submit a “wish-list” of desired state police vehicles to DGS so they can be notified if such a vehicle becomes available for sale.

This is a commonsense piece of legislation designed to give our police departments a leg up in purchasing pursuit vehicles and provide a financial lifeline to our struggling municipalities and the police departments they support.  Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation that passed the House unanimously in October of 2023.
