In the near future, I will be introducing legislation designating a bridge carrying PA Route 53 over Bear Rock Run in the borough of Lilly, Cambria County, as the Corporal James D. Sloan Memorial Bridge.
James Sloan was born on November 15, 1949, in Lilly, Pennsylvania and attended Penn-Cambria High School where he participated in football and wrestling. James enlisted in the United States Military and was promoted to Corporal on December 28, 1967. During his service Corporal Sloan received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Action Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart Medal and the Rifle Marksmen Badge.
Tragically, upon Corporal Sloan’s return home from the Vietnam War he suffered greatly from the invisible wounds of war, PTSD. This ultimately led to his untimely passing on March 12, 1971 in Lilly, Pennsylvania.
As a tribute to this veteran and the impacts that PTSD has on veterans across the United States, I hope you will sponsor this legislation.
I hope you will sponsor this legislation and join me in honoring this hero.
