Too often shopping carts are not returned to the proper areas of a store after use. Even when supermarkets and other stores place cart corrals in the parking lot, customers will leave their cart in a parking spot or another area of the lot. Many times, these carts are left in or around the accessible parking spots, blocking access to these parking places for those who need to use them.

Mandating the placement of cart corrals near accessible parking spots in parking lots will help alleviate this problem and prevent accessible parking spots from being blocked by providing a closer return spot for these carts. I will be introducing legislation that will require placement of shopping cart corrals within a reasonable distance of accessible parking spots in parking lots. This change will help ensure the availability of accessible parking spots for individuals that require their use and will help keep parking lots clear of wayward shopping carts.

Thank you for your consideration of this bill and I hope you will consider joining me in this effort. Together we can reduce instances of shopping carts being left in or around accessible parking spots and improve the daily experiences of individuals who utilize them.
