I am reintroducing legislation (HB 774 from last session) that will prohibit the Pennsylvania State Police from sharing any information relating to firearms purchases that occur in this Commonwealth with any individual or entity, including the federal government. Under this legislation, such information may only be shared when the firearms purchaser, transferee, or applicant is subject to a criminal prosecution and the information may be used as evidence in that prosecution.
Worries abound that the federal government will recklessly attempt to strip Pennsylvanians of their constitutional right to bear arms. I believe this legislation represents a critical first step in ensuring that the federal government does not gain access to any records concerning firearms purchases or ownership, which would pose a significant threat to our democracy and our Second Amendment as well as Article I, Section 21 state constitutional freedoms.
Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to better protect our Commonwealth residents and defend their constitutional rights.
