I will be re-introducing a resolution honoring the life and legacy of the founder of our Commonwealth, William Penn.
The National Park Service proposed permanently removing a statue of William Penn as part of a rehabilitation of Welcome Park in Philadelphia, a part of the Independence National Historical Park. Fortunately, those plans to remove the statue were quickly retracted and withdrawn.
However, this incident has demonstrated to me that many in our Commonwealth and nation today do not fully realize the full and profound impact that William Penn had on our nation.
That is why I am introducing this resolution - to serve as a reminder of what William Penn has meant to this Commonwealth, and to spotlight the many accomplishments and contributions that he made to Pennsylvania and the United States.
I hope that you will consider joining me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
