More than 500,000 veterans were diagnosed with traumatic brain injury between 2000 and 2023, many dealing with ongoing symptoms and co-occurring health conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. Often, they are not provided access to high-definition scans that could aid in their treatment.

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) does not have enough funding to provide this equipment, conduct the scans, or support on-going clinical research into traumatic brain and post-traumatic stress injuries in Pennsylvania. We need to assist the DMVA in acquiring funds to help our service members and veterans get the care that they require. They helped us in our time of need and now it is imperative that we help them in return.

This bill would provide $500,000 for the diagnostic technology to carry out the scans. An additional $500,000 would be provided for hardware and software costs of the diagnostic technology and to further pay for administrative costs to provide the high-definition scans to service members and veterans.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to help our service members and veterans who suffer from a traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress injury get the help they need to recover.
