In Pennsylvania, the names of individual winners of traditional Lottery games are designated as public information under the Right-to-Know Law.  Act 42 of 2017, an expansion of gaming, exempts iLottery prizewinner personal information, creating a situation where the rules are being applied differently across various Pennsylvania Lottery products. I plan to address this inconsistency by introducing legislation allowing individuals to remain anonymous.

While transparency in Pennsylvania Lottery operations is essential, I believe it is equally important to protect lottery winners’ privacy and shield them from those who may be looking to exploit their good fortune.  Under my proposal, a prizewinner’s municipality and county of residence would remain public information, but individuals would be given a choice as to whether they would like to publicly disclose their name and other identifying information, or keep it confidential.

Last session, Senate Bill 373 was co-sponsored by Senators Bartolotta, Brown, Kane, Laughlin, Robinson, and Stefano.

I hope you will join me as a cosponsor of this commonsense change to existing law.
