Drone use has exploded in recent years, and these devices have proven to be a useful tool for many. However, with any emerging technology comes questions on whether current law adequately applies. One of my constituents brought this to my attention when they contacted me about a neighbor who repeatedly trespassed on their property with a drone. In this situation, the police had trouble filing charges because of limitations in our existing laws.

For this reason, I am introducing a bill to explicitly prohibit trespassing with a drone. This is something that other states, including Utah and Virginia, expressly prohibit already. State law in Pennsylvania forbids someone from physically trespassing on another person’s property, but it fails to sufficiently address using a drone to trespass on another’s property. It is time that we address this.

Drones continue to be incredibly useful. We must ensure that people use drones responsibly and that our laws hold drone users accountable for their actions. Please join me in co-sponsoring this commonsense legislation to bring peace of mind to our neighbors.
