Across Pennsylvania, wages continue to lag behind the ever-increasing cost of goods and services. For some hourly workers, the opportunity for overtime work provides a much-needed financial break, giving them a leg up. These hours can mean the difference between paying bills on time, or deciding between going hungry or having utilities shut off. My colleagues and I want to make sure those working overtime hours are able to keep more of that money in their pocket.

I plan to introduce legislation that would make changes to how overtime wages are taxed. Under my proposal, workers would be able to deduct a certain amount of taxes paid on their overtime wages, allowing them to retain more of their hard-earned paycheck.

Workers are not the only ones struggling in this economy.  The National Conference of State Legislators recently reported that it is a job seekers market, making it difficult to retain workers. This proposal will also help employers—by creating an opportunity for employees to retain more of their overtime wages, they are more likely to remain in their positions.

This legislation is vitally important to all Pennsylvanians. It will help workers struggling to keep more of their wages, and will aid employers who are struggling to fill jobs.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
