The Pennsylvania Child Labor Act protects child performers and their earnings, ensuring their profits will be protected for future use. However, these protections do not extend to those working on a social media platform, also known as influencers. As working on social media and being an influencer becomes a larger industry with larger monetary incentives, it is important for us to protect the earnings of these children.

I will be introducing a bill to protect Pennsylvania’s children who are employed as influencers or who have a starring role in a parent or guardian’s social media platform. Like many Pennsylvanians, these children are working and earning money, but, due to their age, cannot have control over their finances. By ensuring their earnings become available for them in the future or their earnings are used for furthering their education, we are protecting their hard-earned money and preventing exploitation.

This bill would add child influencers to Pennsylvania’s current law and expand protections for monetary earnings of child performers. Please join me in supporting a new generation of child performers by co-sponsoring this bill.
