We all know someone who has faced the prospect of losing their job due to layoffs or business closings. This unfortunate, life-changing circumstance has placed thousands of individuals across the commonwealth under the strain of financial uncertainty. Federal law requires businesses with at least 100 employees to provide a 60-day notice when a mass layoff or closure is going to occur. However, this is often an insufficient amount of time for hundreds of workers in a community to find alternative, family-sustaining employment opportunities.

I believe hard working Pennsylvanians are worthy of more time to make necessary arrangements to secure their financial stability. That is what I am introducing legislation that would extend the notice of a closing or a layoff to 90 days for a plant closing with 50 or more employees, or a mass layoff of over 500 workers.

All Pennsylvanians deserve the right to quality employment and should not be dismissed without proper notice. Please join me in protecting workers’ rights.
