Route 53 over Parry’s Run in Gallitzin Township, Cambria County, as the USMCR Mary A. Lidwell Memorial Bridge.

Mary A. Lidwell was born October 11, 1923, in Amsbry, Pennsylvania and graduated from Gallitzin High School in 1942. Mary Lidwell volunteered for the United States Marine Corps in 1943 and became a member of the Women’s Aviation Reserve Squadron until she left the service in 1946 after achieving the rank of Private First-Class. The Women’s Aviation Reserve Squadron, located in El Toro, California at the time, was tasked with repairing damaged airplanes during WW2. For her exemplary work, Lidwell was awarded the Congressional Rosie the Riveter Medal. However, not only did Mary serve her country and community during wartime, but she continued to contribute to her community through volunteering her time at her church, being involved in community projects, fundraising for charities, and working with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to these accomplishments, she also served as the Ashville Borough Secretary and Treasurer for many years.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation that honors a marine veteran who was a part of our greatest generation that helped defend freedom during World War 2.
