Landlords must be fully transparent about the amenities they provide for tenants in lease agreements; however, I have been made aware of instances where landlords are not explicit about whether they provide and charge for parking, including unexpectedly and unjustly imposing parking fees on their tenants. Landlords must be up front about whether parking is provided and, if so, whether the tenant must pay a fee.

To address this, I am introducing a bill to require landlords to be explicit in the lease agreement about whether parking is provided and, if so, whether the tenant must pay a fee and the amount of said fee. If a landlord fails to do so, they would be required to cover the costs of parking that the tenant may incur.

Tenants deserve to know everything about a rental property before they enter a lease agreement, and that includes whether parking is provided and any costs associated with it. My legislation will hold landlords accountable and prevent them from imposing unexpected parking fees. Please join me in co-sponsoring this bill to enhance protections for renters throughout our state.
