Currently, Pennsylvania is one of only six states that still imposes an inheritance tax. The other five are Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska and New Jersey.

Families should not have to concern themselves with paying an additional tax to the state while dealing with the loss of a family member.  To help alleviate this burden, I will be introducing legislation exempting the first $100,000 from being subject to the inheritance tax for family members.

This legislation was Senate Bill 77 of the previous session, cosponsored by Senators Gebhard, Martin, DiSanto, Stefano, Costa, Brewster, J. Ward, Mastriano and Baker, and was reported from the Senate Finance Committee by a vote of 10-1.

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation. Thank you.
