I will be reintroducing Senate Bill 463, previously cosponsored by Senators Dush and Bartolotta, to allow businesses to include sales tax in their advertised prices.
Under current law, when a business advertises the price of a product, the sales tax must be added on top of that advertised price. However, many businesses advertise products or special deals as a certain price “including tax,” such as “Two pizzas for $20, including tax,” which is technically in violation of the law. The businesses offering these “including tax” deals are usually small hometown businesses, such as pizza shops or car shops offering oil changes. Under the current law, they can end up owing thousands of dollars to the state Department of Revenue even though they have remitted the appropriate amount of sales tax to the Department.
Thank you for your consideration of cosponsoring this legislation.
